About the Author
Ernest Morgan became involved in caring for the dead in the 1950s, as chair of the Burial Committee of the Yellow Springs (Ohio) Friends Meeting (Quaker). The group offered funerals to members at no cost. He received publicity about the fact that dignified, meaningful funerals were held with no involvement from the funeral industry, and received many requests for information. The result was the first edition of this book. It was a tremendous success, with over 300,000 copies sold in the first 13 editions. At age 95, Ernest spent the last year of his life updating the material and adding new information for the 14th edition. He passed away just after it was sent to the printer.
